Frozen Lake Gosainkund Trekking leads you to North of Kathmandu valley which is just 40 k.m aeronautical or as the crow fly distances, as the walk leads you with fantastic views of world 8th highest Mt. Manaslu and massive peaks of Ganesh and Langtang Himal and as far towards western horizon looking over Annapurna Himalayan range of mountains.

Frozen Lake Gosainkund, a glacial pond in winter and early spring time this lake will be frozen where one can walk at the rim of the icy lake, Gosainkund regarded as a sacred lake as Hindu belief describes that Lord Shiva (one of the main and popular Hindu Gods beside Brahma and Vishnu) considered as a creator and destroyer, when world was poisoned by the evils he drank all the poison to save the world and to dilute the effect of the deadly poison, he struck his trident (weapon of Shiva) on the ground and formed the lakes around this area and drank to dilute and relinquish the poison.

Frozen Lake Gosainkund will be lively in the month of August (monsoon times) of Janai Purnima where great number of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visits the lake for a holy dip and to offer religious rites and paryer.

According to popular belief, the huge rock at the center of the lake remains of Shiva temple and also believed that it flows through a channel directly to the holy pool of Kumbheshwar Temple located in Patan / Lalitpur south of Kathmandu Valley.

Our fabulous Frozen Lake Gosainkund Trekking starts with an interesting overland drive towards Dhunche, a hill town and the main headquarter town of Rasuwa district and Langtang Himal areas.

The whole areas mostly inhabited by Tamang tribe of people with Buddhist religion and culture, our wonderful walk begins from Dhunche heading towards Frozen Lake of Gosainkund as the walk enters into dense forest of tall rhododendron-magnolia-pines and firs trees, in spring this whole area turns into magical garden with wild- flowers in full bloom.

Walk leads past tree lines reaching a high ridge of Laurabina after Sing Gompa to reach our destination at Gosainkund, a serene glacial lake believed that the 108 pond used to exist around this wonderful spot, at present one can visit couple of holy and important lakes around.

From Gosainkund journey continues contouring high ridge lines and over high pass of the adventure at Gosainkund pass or East Laurabina-la 4,609 m / 15,100 ft high, as the walk leads to the eastern outskirt of Kathmandu valley, after walking past Kutumsang, Gul Bhanjyang and Chisopani villages.

Finally our scenic adventurous walk completes at eastern side of Kathmandu valley for a short drive back to Kathmandu, after concluding a fantastic and exciting Frozen Lake Gosainkund Trekking.
