Poon Hill Sunrise Trekking Itinerary

  • Day 01 Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul 1,010 m and trek to Tikhadunga 1,577 m -04 hrs.

    Morning after breakfast two hours exciting drive from Pokhara leads you further west to reach at Nayapul with awesome panorama of Annapurna and Manaslu Himalaya during the drive.

    On reaching at Nayapul our first day walk leads following Modi River to lovely village of Bhirethati heading due North West on gradual trail for few hours past farm villages and terraced fields and then on stone paved steps to reach at Tikhedhunga with beautiful cascading waterfalls. 

  • Day 02 Trek to Ghorepani 2,840 m - 05 hrs.

    Starting our second day walk with steep uphill on stone steps to reach at Ulleri a large typical Gurung farm village with thatched and slated roofs offering views of Machhapuchare-Annapurna South and Hunichuli peaks, from here onward on gradual winding trail to Ghorepani reaching cooler areas within magnificent tall rhododendron and pine tree woodland.

    After a great scenic walk reaching to our destination at Ghorepani for the hike to Poon Hill next morning, Ghorepani inhabited by Poon people of Magar tribe, one of the ethnic hill tribes of Nepal famous as Gorkha soldiers in UK-India and other foreign countries. The village with blue painted houses and lodges offers marvelous views of Dhaulagiri-Tukuche-Nilgiri and Annapurna Himalayan mountains.   

  • Day 03 Morning Hike to Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani 2,700 m -05 hrs.

    Early morning before sunrise hike to Poon Hill view point for stunning views of sunrise over range of mountains from world 7th highest Dhaulagiri-10th highest Annapurna with range of peaks includes world 8th highest Manaslu with towering Machhapuchare peak “Fish Tail”.

    After an exciting and marvelous time with memorable views from Poon Hill, return to Ghorepani and continue climb into green forest of rhododendron for an hour to Deurali top and then descend into a gorge through cool forest to Tadapani for overnight stop.

  • Day 04 Trek Ghandruk 1,940 m -04 hrs.

    Morning catching super views of Annapurna with Fish Tail peak walk leads into enchanting serene forest with downhill to Ghandruk village for lunch with views of Annapurna South, Huinchuli and towering Mt. Machhapuchare “Fish Tail” Ghandruk a large Gurung village, famous as Gorkha soldiers in UK and Indian armies, besides as gallant soldiers they are farmers and Sheppard’s of Tibetan Buddhist and ancient Bon religion and origin.

    Afternoon visit Gurun museum and witness the local old interesting tradition and culture of Gurung people interwoven with Buddhism religion. 

  • Day 05 Trek back to Nayapul 1,010 m – 04 hrs and drive to Pokhara 860 m - 02 hrs.

    After a lovely morning, our last day walk of the fabulous adventure leads downhill towards warmer farm areas of Syauli Bazaar and the then following the Modi River on a pleasant gradual path past several farm villages and terraces reaching at lovely Bhirethati village and then a short walk to Nayapul for few hours drive back to scenic Pokhara after a grand time on the high hills of Annapurna Himalaya.
