Ultimate Everest Trekking Itinerary

  • Day 01 Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla 2,830 m and trek to Phakding 2,640 m - 04 hrs.

    Today morning depart from the hotel for a short drive to Kathmandu domestic airport where a small aircraft take you to Lukla with short scenic flight of 35 minutes with wide range of mountain views including Mt. Everest, on reaching at Lukla the gateway to high Khumbu and Everest areas.

    In Lukla with time for rest and getting refreshed our walk starts passing shops and stores around Lukla markets and then downhill for a while with short ups and on gradual winding trail past Sherpa farm villages and around Buddhist monuments with views of Kusum Kanguru and Kwangde and finally reaching our overnight stop at Phakding village by the Dudh Kosi River.

  • Day 02 Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs.

    Our second day starts with an easy morning walk with few ups following Dudh Kosi River most of the way and crossing the same river several time to reach at Monjo a nice village with views of Thermasharkhu peak and Khumbi-la mountain (patron god of Khumbu Sherpa).

    From Monjo starts Sagarmatha National Park where trekking and park permits are checked here, after a brief moment continue walk crossing over Dudh Kosi to Jorsalle village for lunch, the last village till Namche is reached.

    From here walks leads on river bed for a while and then over a last bridge and into lovely alpine forested areas of rhododendron, pines and fir trees with views of Kwangde, Kusum kanguru, on a clear afternoon view of Mt. Everest and Lhotse can be seen as well.

    After few hours of uphill climb reaching at famous Namche Bazaar for overnight stop, here you can find wide facilities with excellent lodges, hotels, pubs, restaurants, fresh bakeries, cyber café, health post, post office and banks. 

  • Day 03 Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion.

    A necessary to have a rest day for acclimatization using two nights at this altitude, here at Namche one can take a short hike to the top of Namche hill with view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, Tharmarserku, Kwangde and Amadablam peaks, visit the museum with information of the Khumbu area, afternoon at leisure or walk around the bazaar with nice shops and stores, Namche is flooded with locals and trekkers on Saturday colorful market.  

  • Day 04 Trek to Tengboche 3,867 m - 05hrs.

    From Namche on gradual scenic path with downhill to Imjatse river at Phunge-Tenga for lunch, and then uphill through rhododendron, pines, firs tree forest with views of snowcapped peaks.

    On reaching at Tengboche enjoy the magnificent panorama of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kangtenga, Thamasarku, Kwande and majestic Amadablam.

    Afternoon with time for tour of the monastery, which was burnt by accidental fire in 1991 at present back into normal form, where you can observe monks and priest on evening prayer. 

  • Day 05 Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m - 05hrs.

    Morning downhill walk for few hours over Imjatse River, after the bridge walk on an open country where tree lines fades for few short juniper and dwarf rhododendron bushes, uphill for a while to reach at Pangboche village at 3,900 meters. Last permanent village before Dingboche and beyond, from here a slow climb to Somara for lunch and continue walk with climb to Dingboche village for overnight stop, located in Imjatse valley with panorama of mountains.

  • Day 06 Trek to Chhukung 4,750 m -04 hrs.

    A short morning walk towards eastern rim of Imjatse valley to Chhukung for overnight stop with views of Mt. Makalu and other adjoining peaks, Chukung located at 4,760 m high a small and last settlement within Imjatse valley offers incredible views of Island Peak, Lhotse Shar, Lhotse, Nuptse and Amadablam.

  • Day 07 At Chhukung rest day for acclimatization and preparations.

    A free day to relax and enjoy the beautiful and impressive scenery of mountains and hike to Chhukung Ri to add more heights and for better acclimatization offers incredible views of surrounding peaks of Lhotse-Lhotse Shar-Amadablam-Amphu peaks with Makalu towards east including Island / Imjaste peak, rest of the afternoon at leisure preparation for next day daring and adventurous climb over Kongma-la to reach at Lobuche.

  • Day 08 Cross Kongma-la 5,535m and to Lobuche 4,928m - 08 hrs.

    From Chhukung starting very early morning to cross the first pass of the adventure over Kongma-la our route diverts towards north beneath towering peak of Lhotse and Nuptse.

    Climb leads uphill over moraine to reach at Kongma-la and the peak Kongma or Mehra, after a rest in between cross over Kongma-la pass at 5,535 m / 18,159 ft near Nuptse, Mehara and Pokalde peaks. After a hard climb descend to Khumbu glacier and with last steep climb to reach at Lobuche for overnight stop.

  • Day 09 Trek to Everest Base Camp 5364 m and return to Gorakshep 5,180 m - 06 hrs.

    Today reach the highlight of the adventure at Everest Base Camp, walk for few hours with short steep climb in between over glacier and moraine, reaching at Gorakshep, beneath lofty peak of Pumori and Kalapathar.

    Walk continues towards Everest Base Camp, at base camp enjoy the view of notorious Khumbu Ice Fall and glaciers, after a grand time with experience of a lifetime adventure at base camp retrace the journey back to Gorakshep for overnight halt.

  • Day 10 Hike to Kalapathar 5,545 m trek to Dzongla 4,830 m - 06 hrs.

    Early morning hike to the top of Kalapathar at 5,545 meters, highest point of this adventure with marvelous views of mountains including Mt. Everest at mere distance, after a great scenic moment descend to Gorakshep for breakfast and continue walk to Dzongla with gradual descend and winding trail above Thugla to reach at the base of Cho-la pass at Dzongla for overnight stop.

  • Day 11 Cross Cho-la pass 5,367m/17604ft, walk down to Thangnak 4,750m - 07 hours.

    A tough and exciting day, morning leads to cross the second pass of the adventure over Cho-la pass (Tshola), following a path which leads to a steep up and then crossing the glacier on the eastern side. Finally on reaching at the top of the pass with an altitude of above 5,367 m high, with views of mountains and of Cholatse Glacier, and then descend carefully to Thangnak for overnight stop after a hard climb over Cho-la pass, Thangnak at 4,750m a small isolated place with few Lodges.

  • Day 12 Trek to Gokyo 4,750 m - 04 hrs.

    After a tough climb and descend from Cho-la pass, this morning an easy with gradual walk as the route follows to Gokyo Lake beneath Ngozumba glacier to reach at first lake.

    From here walk leads to a climb by the side of a glacier, passing another second lake and reaching at third lake known as Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake, which is a summer settlement offering fantastic views of Mt. Cho Oyo and Gyachung Kang that reflects on emerald green waters of Gokyo Lake. Afternoon relax with short walk around the lake. 

  • Day 13 At Gokyo rest day with hike and climb to Gokyo Ri at 5,357m /17,570 ft.

    Today full rest day at Gokyo with morning optional hike and climb up to Gokyo-Ri one of the highlight of the adventure, Gokyo-Ri a scenic view point at 5,357m with stunning panorama of world’s four highest mountains of Mt. Cho Oyo, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse as far towards Mt. Makalu with Gyachung Kang, Cholatse and Taweche peaks. After a wonderful moment at Gokyo Ri, head downhill to Gokyo for lunch with rest of the afternoon free and relax enjoy the surrounding views.

  • Day 14 Cross Renjo-la 5,360m/ 17585ft, and descend to Marlung 4,210m - 07 hrs.

    The last and final pass of the adventure, starting early morning and then head towards Renjo-la, walk follows at the end of Gokyo Lake, with marvelous views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche, and then over Renjo La pass at 5,360 m / 17,585 ft, one of the most difficult section of this adventure, on reaching the top with breathtaking panorama of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other high surrounding peaks.

    After a nice rest stop walk follows to a frozen ponds beneath Renjo La pass, and then descend reaching a small settlement at Lungdhen for lunch stop, located near on route to Nangpa-la pass the trail heading to Tibet.

    From Lungdhen walk leads further downhill past few cattle and Yak herder temporary shelters and the reach at a small place in Marlung village close to Thame for overnight stop.

    Marlung and Thame village located at the western end of Khumbu of Everest region, which is just 5-6 hours walk to Namche Bazaar. 

  • Day 15 Trek to Namche Bazaar - 06 hrs.

    After breakfast, head off from Marlung towards Mende or near Thame village on the quiet trail for sometimes and then reaching on the main trails of Thame and Namche Bazaar near Thamo village with a hydro power for Khumbu village, from here back into woodland of tall pines-fir-oaks and rhododendron trees and on the good main trail to Namche Bazaar.

    At Namche enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge and fresh bakeries around its nicely paved streets with well stocked stores and shops.  

  • Day 16 Trek to Lukla - 06 hrs.

    Today a long day walks enjoy your last day trekking of this great adventure to Lukla, as the trail leads downhill to Dudh Kosi River to reach at Monjo and Sagarmatha National Park entrance, from here a pleasant walk to Phakding and then retrace the journey back to Lukla with a last climb. On reaching Lukla celebrate last night dinner with fellow trekkers and staff.

  • Day 17 Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

    Morning as per your flight time for Kathmandu transfer to Lukla airport also named as Tenzing-Hillary airport (tribute to legendry climbers who conquered first on Mt. Everest in May 29th 1953). Soon on getting a boarding pass board on a small plane for sweeping scenic flight back to Kathmandu. On reaching at Kathmandu domestic airport transfer to your hotels with time in the afternoon for individual activities and shopping souvenirs includes farewell dinner in authentic Nepalese restaurants with folk cultural programs.
